View Full Version : A suggestion to the makers of guild wars

dear game developers:

i am hardcore mmorpg gamer from the philippines. I have tried mmorpg's like Ragnarok, Khan, Tantra, Rose Online and even World of Warcraft. Basically i really love GUILD WARS!!! it has astounding graphics, challenging PvE fights and a wonderful story...

but one crucial element is missing... and that is the in-depth character interface with the environment and other players..

these would include things like fishing, harvesting, swimming, and even jumping.. or the ability to use the environment in fights like breaking the ceiling to use on your enemies etc...

on a graphical standpoint.. this game beats World of Wacraft (personal opinion)... but WoW got us beat when it comes to player to player and player to environment interface which WoW has alot of... HAving greater character customization during the gameplay would be nice too.. like having the equivalent of a WoW tailor in GW.

i really hope that the next expansion of GW would include these features i suggested.. because these gaming aspects would help any gamer get even more immersed in the game..

Interaction with the enviroment (farming, fishing, harvesting) isnt part of every MMORPG and just isnt part of Guild Wars

I would prefer killing trolls then fishing trout honestly...

i agree with avenger. with great pvp and pve i dont even have time to consider fishing. breaking through ceilings? i dont recall ever being inside a building in GW :D i would like to see more open pathed environment. the invisible walls all over are a little annoying. i too would like to see more environment interaction. more stuff like the seed=vine bridges. however i dont know what these would be. i would like to see combat based interaction, not farming type interaction. i would like to see game wide events, like the frog. like in when i played earth and beyond there was always some fun game wide even on holidays. however, being it is instanced, it is harder to do game wide events. now that i'm on my 4th character, i too am getting tired of seeing the same characters. i agree that we need some in game customization.

well would have to agree with that stuff because i too want more surrounding interface like rock that can be moved or ropes that need to be pulled.. but the fishing or cooking i guress its ok and would add more depth but i would rather kill a monster than get trout. if i wanted to do that i would pplay big bass fishing. but i would fish if available just im not gonna say interface with invironments over fishing

I agree somewhat with Idis Du Palantiri.

I would really like to see the ability to have a character who can be a tailor or a merchant, a blacksmith or whatever.

I understands lots of people's gripe with "grind", a term to which I was just recently introduced, but I think the problem with grind is *requiring* a player to do it. There are times that I wouldn't mind logging on and just doing some non-combat type things to up some non-combat type skills (if there were any). In opposition, I'd also like the ability to just get on a beat the crud out of some nasty monsters!

I'd like to have to actually use a skill in order to raise it. In other words, the more my level 8 warrior uses the "Sever Artery" skill the better he'd get at it. This concept can apply to both combat and non-combat skills. It just doesn't feel very immersive when I can spend attribute points to raise my ranger's marksmanship attribute even if spent all my time in battle healing other party members, and didn't once shoot my bow.

The "invisible walls" all around the world just plain suck. If I want to jump off a cliff into the ocean, I ought to be able to do just that. There should be consequences, of course, but that's what I get. It's garbage that my character can't jump over a log or jump down a hill just because the angle is a little too steep.

How about being able to ride a mount? Sail a boat? Swim? One of the most beautiful things in this game, I think, are the water effects. The water is beautiful! But my character can't swim in it. He can't get to that hidden area of the map, the entrance to which is behind the waterfall, because he can't swim out to it! Why *not* have some of the quests require you to go under water or swim out some place? What would be wrong with that?

I read a post on another forum that said modes of transportation like jumping, climbing, swimming, flying, etc. just weren't necessary because of the immersive and creative map we've been given. Hogwash. We ought to be able to do all of these things if we choose. I'm not saying that characters should be able to fly like superman, but perhaps they can ride on giant birds or something. At *least* give us swimming, mounts, ships, etc. Please?

Climbing should be a skill. The more you try to climb steep inclines the easier it should get. If a character was to get proficient enough they might even be able to climbe vertical walls. Perhaps he could buy (or make) some rope or other gear to assist in climbing.

On the subject of making items. Why not give characters the option of making something *OR* taking the necessary components to a crafter. The character should have to build his skill in making certain things so in the beginning going to a crafter would make more sense, but later on when you're stranded in the middle of nowhere with out a crafter in sight, you or someone in your party just may be able to save your butts by making whatever was needed to help out.

Over all this is a great game, and my hat's off to the developers for making such a game. I just think, that it could be a little bit better if it offered these other options to players who wanted them. After all this game, to me at least, is about *role playing* not just about combat and guild ladders.

I hope we see some of these features in future expansion packs. I'd gladly pay my hard-earned cash for an expansion that contained these sorts of features. :)

Thanks for listening,
Chris

this goes against the basic foundation of guild wars, that the devs had in mind, basically your character's strength shouldn't be based on how many hours you play the game, but your personal skill as a player.

i would like to see some bonus for spending hours, but these would have to be like, cooler armor, or something like that. i would like not to see jobs, because then you would have to have one, to keep up in the economy, but little minigames, not fishing per se, but something along those lines, of pointless fun.

another thing that would be an intersting element, i like a certain amount of not instanced game.... missions need to be, that's the only way they can work, but other than story missions, i would like to see a bit of non instanced gameplay (personal bias)

I like that idea, courtesy of Everquest. I would also like to have the ability to craft your own gear, and have liek a player run crafting system. To be more descriptive, this system would allow players who do their own crafting make more unique items, and those without those skills can buy from them, or go to public crafters to make them their gear.

I would also like to be able to pick up armor off the ground, and even if it can't be put on right away, have it customized so that a charachter can wear it on their own. Also to bring in stuff from another thread...There needs to be way more variety in weapons...and those rangers should actually have to carry arrows...since when have arrows been summoned unlimited out of thin air?

Along with all the other great ideas i've read here , a better more "complext" or "freeform" fighting" system would make killing monsters alot more interesting, on standard all you do at the moment is click once sit back an watch your character hit at a standard pace, it gets boring real fast you know

Who cares if this idea goes against what the developers originally had in mind for the game. If the players ask for something often enough and loud enough, then they may just provide it. Do you really care? As long as those things are optional and not required, what should it matter to you?

I appreciate everyone's comments whether they agree with me or not. :)

i like cjordan's ideas. for the making your own stuff thing it would be nice if you could use salvaged materials to make stuff, so u dont always have the NPCs doing it, like you could talk to a npc, and at a sertain price he teaches you how to make a peice of armour, then if you have the required materials, you can punch in the name of the char for it to be made for, then it's made. they could make it so you can make dinomite, used as a weapon, with a sertain amount of carges, and does area affect. also, dont you hate it when you acadently hit "craft" one to many times? GW armour should be made in sizes (set at bigining (hight of cahr)) so it isnt a total waste, at least someone would be able to use it. swimming would be nice, they can put it so you can only swim for a sertan amount of time, to prevent people from swimming to far.. another nice feature would be, instead of haveting to salvage materials, you could be able to acuire them by interacting with the environment, for example, you go into a sertain place were you can mine for iron. anotother cool feature would be like pvp with high numbers like 20vs 20.
