I just left a group headed for Kryta from Beacons Perch. In this group we had an individual name Smashing Thunder. He stopped and demanded money from us when we were halfway to Kryta. When we would not pay, he ran backwards thru the portals.
Consequently after 2 portals, I left with my Monk. I didn't like doing this because it left the others in the party to his "tender" monetarily driven mercies.
Things like this have to stop! The players of Guild Wars need to take a stand and NOT pay anyone to be run anywhere for anything. Having a friend or guildbrother run you is acceptible to me, because they do it out of fun and friendship.
For Example:If the designers of GW would make it so that you have to be at least level 18 to have Droknars armor, it would help that problem immensely.
I've spoken my piece, and I truly believe that I am right. So, if you must flame....
Flame On!

You are right, A solution is needed, but i dont understand, so please explain, how that puting a level requirement on droknar's armor prevent people too be runned too, let's say, The Temple Of Ages....
P.S. Sorry about what happened too you, but you did all you could.. Posting the problem and giving the name too the public is the best thing you could've doen too prevent him too do the same thing again

originally i was dead set against running. i felt it destroyed the purpose of the game. however, now that i am on my 4th character, i understand why people would want a run. after you've played the game so many times, you dont feel like doing the quests/mission again

yeah, If you dont want a run... Just dont take part or give one, who cares what other players do?

In this particular case, no one in our group that I talked to requested a paid run.
And incidentally, Beacon's Perch to Kryta is not that tough. After the trouble we had, I grabbed some henchies and ran to Kryta myself.
As far as the level limits. If you have to be a high level to wear Drok's armor, that, it would seem, eliminates the problem of low levels paying high levels to run them there. I'll admit that I'm not perfect, and if I'm missing something please point it out. I would rather discuss this issue than argue about it.
The entire problem could be solved if players would run people for free or for donation. And, if there is no donation, not to sweat it. People who appreciate your efforts will give you what they think is fair, and affordable to them.

or most people would pay you nothing, and no one would do runs anymore. problem solved indeed

I do agree with the req on armor...but that would have to be implemented carefully, cause you can make it to a few places with armour traders by doing the missions but not quests and not levelling that high (pre drok's anyway).

The running game is crap and full of scammers. 3 Rules I've learned is:
1 - ONLY pay upon arrival to a town. (no paying before, no paying half-way)
2 - Paying more then 300-500 gold for a run is a rip. Depending on the run, its a fairly simple task just to stack on defenses and sprint from town to town. ALSO, if you think about it, your losing in the end when you could have done the missions and gained the experience - thus getting you to lvl 20 faster. If your already lvl 20 and just doing it for skills, cool beans.
3 - If you get scammed, its your own fault for not being cautious.
When it comes down to it, i'd rather pay to have one of these warriors that can run so well do just as good of a job tanking.

what if you decide to play your PvE character in the arenas to gain xp, instead of missions? you dont lose if you get a run. now that i'm doing my 4th character, i dont feel like doing all the quests/missions, so i am leveling in the arenas. i would get a run to the forge, but i need to do some quests along the way to get skills.
the best thing to do is get a run from a guildmate, or someone you know

Well okay, if you set up your PvE character for PvP then thats another way to get XP. I dont see how you can get XP very fast though unless you find yourself a good group to PvP with.

yes it does take a good chunk of time to lvl in the arenas, but since its my 4th character, its more fun then doing the quests again

The idea of running was completely against me at first, but it has grown on me also.
I normally do run people but always for free, and never the long runs. I'm more than willing to help the PvPers by running them as far as i know the way... I take many in my guild to Captain Greywind for their skills, but thats because i understand the PvP side appeals to some more than others.
As for paying for runs...NEVER!
In the little experence i have had with paying runners, it normally is a rip off, or they scam you out of your money.

i made this post a while back in a forum that sugested horses, i think i made a good point on how this could stop running....
not sure if this has been said...
to make horses be needed, you could put this in...
it is VERY unrealistic that wariors can run so fast in full steal plate. each peice of armour should slow your char down a sertain percent, especialy for plate warior armour. this will stop running on a small scale, and to ensure that runners dont just ride there and make the whole thing easyer, if you are riding a horse, and you take 20 hits without making an atempt to attack back, you start taking 4x as much damage, the 20 hit will ensure that someone fighting on horses doesnt get killed to easy, but will slaughter runners very fast. this way there is a need for wariors to have horses, but also helps put a prity heafty blow on runners, wich by the encreasing dificulty of the forge run GW people dont like... How can we loose?
Also my guild originated in the game Sacred, wich had horses...
and i couldnt think of a better name so i used the name "The Black Cavalry" in this guild... horses would make my guild make so much more sense..

I thing, that best way to eliminate runners is checking of distance of the team members before leaving area. Like in Baldur's Gate "You must gather your party before entering first"..
This is 100% working, but it is not solving problem with replaying quests and missions again and again for every charakter you played..
Maybe if the map will be shared between your own charakters as storage is..
And some hard missions with big treasure (with mosters respawning during the mission, so you must fight through to the treasure and then with the treasure back to the safety :) ), because running is the fastest way to earn gold, but it is too easy (for trained ones)......

Things like these is the reason why I stay as far away from pick up groups as possible. It's sad, but the thing that really screws up the game is those idiots that screw it up for everyone.
On the running thing; I absolutely hate runners. If you try to go somewhere in the shiverpeaks now, it's insane. You got a million slows in there now. Even if you wouldnt take damage and be able to walk straight to your destination it would still take an hour cause you are at 10% speed all the time.
Anyway, I've finished the game with 9 PvE characters since GW came out in April, and I've never ever paid for a run on any of my characters. I've never gotten a run to droknar or wherever. In my opinion it's just stupid. Why make a PvE character if your gonna have it ran to endgame instantly. Might as well make a PvE char.

i don't quite agree with getting rid of running. I think that if you want a run you should be able to get one. I also think that if you are a runner, and have the skill to run and want to be paid for it that it is ok. I have a character that is a runner, but that doesn't mean that it is a warrior! My runner is in fact a monk. And i can run anywhere except the southern shiverpeaks. I should be able to charge for a run if i wish. I also understand what you are getting at too. It does make me mad when people scam, but i have done my share of free runs. Now though i would like some money to get things for my other characters. I also agree with having a level limit for droknars armor (and skills). It takes all the fun out of pvp when you go in there and there is a level 9 with a skill you get in the desert. But i still think that a runner should be able to run for money if they want to. You may or may not agree with me but that is how i feel.

^^ exactly, i saw a lvl 11 with animate bone fiend and that really t'd me off...but i think they should put a lvl requirement on skils, but not armor. maybe they should have attrbute requirements, but not lvl requirements. But what I always do is this: "I pay (insert $ amount here) upon arrival to (insert city name here) would you like to see the money?" and most of the time they will say thesse things: [a] no, its ok, I trust you. [b] yes, i would like to seee the money [c] all the cash upfront (DO NOT DO THE RUN THIS WAY) I always tend to get option a, but occasionally ill see option b, and rarely will I see option c. and if i do, i dont take the run. But the only time i run is if im really really reaaly bored, or if I know im incapable of doing the run myself.
Well runners.... where to start.....
In all I dont like runners at all, I dont care if you are friends and you are helping the person around. if you are running them to an outpost to go to a skill trader that is still..ugh to me. Y dont I like this???
There tend to be to many idots running around not knowing anything or not even strong beacuse they get run around. People need to fight and earn so exp. in the game....
Like finding lvl 10s in Forge? thats not right... So they can go back to Asclons arenas and cheat in battles. Having elite skills and forge armor at lvl 10-11. Thats not right...
Runner to me r blah and should be no more... They rip people off and take away the skills they would learned. And you people making a second char. and getting the armor and eltie skill at 11 is not a nice thing to do...

People tend to mix honest runners who do this to earn a bit extra cash, from scammers that should be ban from any games (aztecs punished scam of death because someone that can never be trusted doesn't deserves lives).
When I got my W/R Lvl20 to the desert, I thought it would be a good idea to get run to droknar in order to get a little bit extra to ascend my character (it didn't help THAT much, but I had a beautiful armor :) ).
The runners I teamed with were very "professional". Which means they predicted success and made it. If someone didn't paid, they didn't mind and took the leech to town all the same.
I remind that GW developpers weren't totally against runners because it added diversity and unpredicted fun to the game. What they didn't liked were scammers.
So:
-either you are fatalistic, and you never do anything out of bound and stay in the line.
-either you try to be lucky and choose a runner wisely.
If you fall on a scammer, write to the support team and write the name of the player, the time of the run, the place of the run, and make sure this guy will never touch a CORPG again. That's the real and only way to get rid of them.
Only con is that you will never see your money back.
So it is no use to come and cry.

i think running people places is ok... after playing the game with several characters it gets old doing the same ol missions and quests. but at the same time i am starting to build a running character and i run people places for donations because i also know that alot of players dont have alot of gold i know i hardly ever have more than 20k at any given time. and when i do runs i do it for donations/tips and i find that people give more when not compelled to. now it doesnt work for all people but it works for me... also i would never go with someone who demanded pay in mid-run as with the story... but i also have several characters where i have run myself to various places. i took a level 15 ranger from lions arch all the way to sanctum cay with henchies
and to denravi its not that hard to run your self if you dont like paying someone... and concerning level requirements for armor... that would be nice because it gives people an unfair advantage in pvp. but at the same time i have stopped going to ascalon and yaks bend arenas because of that very problem.i would suggest the same to people. if they dont like what happens... although i dont see it happening as much as it used to.

Although Runnign isnt that great, people who do it seriously mess up the future of their profile. They lose Skill points by jumping ahead, and they mess up the flow of the leveling. and also, it doesnt affect, because if u see a lvl >20 with droks, u know hes a noob.

well, on friday I started a monk, my 2nd pve character, went into post-searing at level 3, got my friend to run me to Droknar's, bought droknar's armor. I then bought a ton of experience scrolls and went with my friend to do Nolani academy over and over again, just sat back and healed. I got to level 9 in about 2 hours. I personally don't see why running is such a bad thing. I don't want to play through all the missions right now, to be completely honest nobody listens to anything the party says, the just charge in and agro everything and lsoe the quest.. then you have the people who just leave in the middle or go afk. This way I get to level 20 a lot quicker, if I need the skill points I just go back and solo all the missions up to kryta, then just do them with henchmen until I get ascended. Then I have to find groups because those missions are a bit harder with henchmen, but by that point I've already saved a lot more time than I would have trying to find groups and doing missions over and over because my party doesn't know how to listen. Just my take on things runs, they save a lot of time in the longrun.
