View Full Version : Automatically replace disconnects / quitters with henchmen?

This is an idea I had to deal with the constant problem of quitters and disconnected players rendering the harder (and longer) missions in the game impossible (or just plain too hard, anyway).

If someone drops during a mission, their character could be immediately replaced by a henchman "copy" -- ie. an npc that is identical to the dropped player. Of course, the AI player won't (usually) be as good as the human player, but it's a heck of a lot better than being shorthanded.

I see one problem: A high level character could offer or charge money to come into a low-level mission, and then leave as soon as it starts; the party is given a high-level henchman to make things easier, maybe too easy.

What do you think? Any way this could work?

the only way this system would work is if the game could somehow know when a player has disconnected, then replace it by a henchmen ( not a copy of the player, that'd be too complicated, just a regular henchmen) But this wouldnt solve the problem completly since those who leave without being disconnected wouldnt be replaced, but it would solve the issue you mentioned

this is a good idea. to eliminate the problem of high lvl players exploting would be to make the hench the same lvl as the lowest party member. i dont think it would be too complicated to make a AI player copy. they create a player copy for the droppleganger, right?

The server knows when someone has quit or lost their connection

I think it's an excellent idea, normal henchies or a copy of the quitter/disconnected player is good for me :D

Good idea

i'm one of those that gets disconnected half the time and as soon as i get back on i have people all sending me whispers about what happened.

At least this way we wouldnt be one short

I like the idea because I've been on co op missions and half the team would quit after the bonus.. Any normal henchie would work for me.

Make it a normal Henchie, and I'm sold!

it would work nicely if you put a henchie that was the same primary prof as the person who left, so at least if a monk left, adn that way your only monk, you will have a monk henchmen.
