must I down load entire game?

after buying GW i inserted the install disks (whitch ran for a second or 2)and then proceeded to download 21 mb's of data(i'm on dial up so it took quite a while,,1160 files)finally,created account,made a character and hit play ,i then see city of ascalon downloading 5300+ files,,,that is gonna take a week or so,lol did i do something wrong?shouldn't some of this stuff be on the install disks?thank you in advance

Some is on the install disk, but changes they have made since then you will have to dl. 5300+ files seems like alot of changes, certanly for city of ascalon...

i'm not too sure about this game,i have an hour or 2 download every time i enter a new zone just took first character into acadamy today,had 1.5 hour download,played a 3 minuite mission and i have another 911 files to download,all the reviews i read said this game worked well with dial-up,,,but i never saw that i had to down;load 4 mb's of files everytime i enter a new zone,i thought eq patches were bad,out of 8 hours or so on the game,i've played mabey 1.5 hours,the rest is downloads,,,kinda wish i had seen this before pluncking down 50$what will happen when i finally know enough to find a group,,,reacon they'll wait 2-3 hours for me to dl zone?

That's crazy i'd forward that on to the support and Guilwars.com, it probably has something to do with the fact that all the updates they've made but that's ridiculous. Maybe there's something they can do to help you out (if nothing else make some sort of d/l you can leave on all night so it's not like that all the time or just give you your money back!)

yh i only have to get 0-3 files max.
but maybe its becuase you on dial up.
or maybe a sratch on the disk?
(thats what happened t mine, i bough it from asda and went to install and it got stuck on 13% for 3 hours then i checked the disk and there was glue on the bottom so i had to wipe it off.)

No matter what your connection speed is, you will have to download files the first time you enter a new area. It gets better once you have been everywhere once, b/c then the load times are non-existant. They say you can play on dial-up, b/c you can. You just have to get things downloaded first.

yeah, but too make sure nothings wrong.... When you go back into a zone you already whent too... Do you dl a long time again... Or is it a conciderably shorter waiting time?
