It seems as though the targeting area (when you get enemies in your detection circle or whatever it's called) extends all the way up and down in the area you are in...as in all they way up to the sky and all the way down to the lowest point.

For example:

Last night I was working my way to the Henge of Denravi...there is a part where you cross two log bridges high over a deep ravine filled with Wind Riders (or similar) and immediately upon stepping on the bridge my party was hit with poison and several other life draining effects. I thought they were coming from the encounter on the other side of the bridge, so after wiping them out I tried to get two party members resurrected who had bit it on the bridge, but got hammered every time I stepped back on the bridge. Now, there is NO WAY any of my casters can hit these guys down below, they are mere specs they are so far away. They should have never been able to target me from that distance. I never got my party resurrected and had to run the rest of the way to the next area.

Now, I can certainly see the need for enemies above and below you to hit you, but the distance these guys were away was obscene. They couldn't possible target me from this distance in a lateral situation, why should they be able to vertically?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but if those things can cast on you, your casters can cast on them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but cast distances are set by the spell, not the player/mob. Just use the 'c' and 'tab' buttons to select your target instead of your mouse, which is good to get used to anyway.

With that said, I do agree it is annoying to not pay attention to height in such a way, however situsations like that seem to be rare, and not all that serious. As a good rule of thumb, heal and regen after every encounter, espically with all those mobs that drop down from the trees or climb out of the ground.

My casters could not cast on them, no matter what. That's not really the point though. Like I said if they couldn't hit me laterally from that distance, why should they be able to vertically?

I agree. If I'm on a 50 foot cliff and standing five feet back, then they shouldn't even know I'm there unless I give myself away. Yet by virtue of the circle of "awareness" the instantly know I'm there and start attacking. There is no stealth in this game whatsoever, except staying far away.

Early in the game there are several bridges where enemies are frequently beneath and will attack you when you walk over the bridge. It makes no sense that they see you above their heads but you can run past them on the ground and they won't come after you, sounds like a bug that needs to be squashed.

It seems that way.

I've have similar questions with the dection circle (or whatever it is) that on occasion when a mob passes through they'll ignore me, and other times they won't.

I started out assumning that it was because of the difference in the levels between me and the mob, but I'm not so sure that's holding true anymore.

Anybody else experience this or have an answer to this? :?:
