At what level should I go ahead and go with Tydus?

Right now I'm at level 7 and I've finished every other quest I can find.

Agreed. The main thing is completing all of the quests before you move on.

On the characters that I have in post searing now, they were lvl 8's when they went into the academy, but I killed every red dot on the mini screen for fun too.

not really, its the questing that gives exp and being a decent lvl is the mos timportant thing

I find the quickest way to lvl up is too do the first q that gives u 2 skills and then jsut kill stuff till lv 3. Then you start doing the quests.
