my character is an elementalist monk. so far ive only used fire magic and seem to deal a good deal of damage to mutiple enemys. but being an elementalist i tkae way to much damage.
thinking of using air or earth magic cuz i heard they're good. any suggestions .

theyre all good. plain and simple. fire owns the AoE, water does one annoying water trident lol which is also for focus fire, earth can deal mass damage and throw in some protection skills like ward against melee, ward against foes, obsidian flesh, although with earth you run out of energy quite fast from all the exhaustion, and air can do a whole lot of damage and use focus fire
NOTE: if you are a lower level than you should be maybe go back and do some side quests for exp, or think about crafting armor
earth will help you out with defense or you could add in more monks skills to keep you alive

TIP: Armor of Earth - use it for self preservation - Aura of Restoration heals for 327%? or so each cast so a ten point cast heals for 33 (#'s are rough) with 90 pip you can heal with that alone fairly well - until focused that is - then only God or a monk will save you........

It all boils down to this really.
Earth
-Defensively minded spells
-Wards
-Armor buffs
-AOE KD/followup
-A persistant aoe with blind
-Good burst damage
Earth is the least common used but is very powerful if you take the time to learn its ins and outs. Superb for boosting defense as the OP was concerned about. Very group friendly, but mostly used as a secondary.
Water
-Persistant aoe that interrupts
-Several aoe spells
-Spammable KD spell
-Snares on most spells
-A few defensively minded ones as well
Waters biggest boon is the snares attached to its spells which are terrific in pvp. Many good spells, good damage, a solid choice in both pvp and pve.
Air
-Many DD's
-A single aoe
-Condition inflicting spells
-KD's
Air spells make for great focus fire because they are mostly DD's. KD spells interrupt rezzing and make taking out monks easier. Air is awesome in pvp, but lacks in pve due to lack of aoe spells.
Fire
-Many high damage aoe spells
-A few persistant aoe spells
-Burning effects
Fire is all about damage to multiple opponents, which is ideal in pve since things bunch up and you can take them down quickly, but it can lack in pvp because of its fast paced-always moving nature and due to players moving out of your persistant aoe spells. Best in pve, average in pvp.
Each one has its purpose, and they all have advantages and drawbacks. I suggest trying them all out when your at a place that you have many of each type of spell so you can get the full feeling of how each one operates.

ty, im lvl 18 now. so i think its the armor that sucks. also whats aoe?
Area of Effect - Deals damage to all enemies in a specific target area of the spell. Often deals damage over time (DoT) too.

im a e/mo myself.. focus on fire all the way 15k pyromancer armor looks soo cool 8)
and even if you wanted to be a Monk.. being a E/Mo just for the energy storange makes up for the lack of the primary monk skills.. you might not be able to heal alot at once.. but your gonna be able to heal for a long time.
I know this is a little OT but i liek to speak my mind :wink:
