Dervish and Paragon are the 2 new professions, and they are previewed on GameSpy.

The Dervish information :
* Melee combatants.
* Wield scythes.
* Have 360 degree attacks.
* Cast spells to enhance, heal and protect themselves.
* Wear robes rather than armour, relying on evasion.
* Wear special bracers.
* Wear hoods to preserve humility before the gods.
* Temporarily transform into the physical embodiment of a god.

The Paragon information :
* Battlefield commander.
* Wield throwing spears.
* Utilise chants and shouts to enhance allies.
* Wear saintly armour, incorporating ivory and mother-of-pearl.
* Armour ahs engraved wings.
* Elonians believe them to be guardian angels.
* Their presence can help allies resist hexes and other curses.

And a preview event in 10 days, so exciting !

Except that I fly to New Zealand on the 21st, arrive on the 23rd, and that leaves... 5 days to find a home, establish a broadband connection and get my PC shipped around the world... :roll:

I'm reading throwing spears...not actually melee chars then? Too bad I like the whole idea of spears being piercing/slashing/blunt depending on type of attack. Either way, new chars are always cool, now if I could just get some extra slots! :wink:

:roll: remind me some of the skills I suggested for an officer profession :)

"For Balthazar !" - platoon warcry. When grunt are demoralized, this warcry will boost their confidence and push them to the limit. 50% chance of missing if Charisma under 9.
"No mercy !" - platoon warcry. For 25-40 sec, grunts will attack 25% faster. If the target is not dead afterward, the grunt will lose 25% confidence.


:? However they didn't kept the pet grunt I was suggesting for the officer. So this mean the party will be his grunts... and the warcry wil motivate the party...

:roll: I don't know why... but I have the impression that dictatorial warrior leaders will find their matches in the paragon...

The scythe is a melee weapon. Don't forget you will get 2 new character slots with each chapter you add on to your existing account!

I am actually happier that spears are throwing weapons ( maybe they will actually be called javelins then ), as I prefer ranegd combat but find bows so very slow - javelins must surely be faster.

Kudos to Anet for profession concepts ; on paper it is difficult to come up with a concept that rivals cowled scythe-wielding 360-fighting god-form warrior-mages... but the angelic Paragons actually pull it off. 8)

Hmm, my first ever GW character was called Paragon Of Light - maybe I should see if the name is still available...

Note to Wanderer : it is wayyyy to early to be stating that account holders will gain 2 new character slots - we do not want to start such a rumour in case it turns in to a firestorm upon our heads later ! :roll: :shock:

I was under the same impression Wanderer. And yah, I know the Scythe is melee, my comment was meant as I like the whole idea that spears can be used in a staff style as well as stabbing and slashing, but throwing spear (or javelin) is pretty much piercing. Nothing serious just a comment.

For the weekend event, will you need an empty pvp slot to play with a dervish or paragon? Cause in that case I don't want to delete any of my established characters just for a couple days of fun! And before anyone asks I filled all my slots because we're going to get the extra slots for money...eventually. Ah well we'll see what I feel like when the event takes place.

Actually a rumor started now about 4 more slots might encourage them to give us 3!!!

I doubt ANet provides a slot fo rthe even as they didnt last time they previewed the Sin and Rit.......

IIRC they didint even give you all the skills to try they just gave some premades and then you could unlock some stuff to try. It would really be nice if they simply allowed all items and skills for the event somehow.


BTW, I dont care if he wears a bathing suite while fighting I want a Scythe!

I can't wait until I get home to try Guild Wars Nightfall out. The Dervish sounds cool, and the Paragon is really more of the stay-out-of-combat-and-help-allies-or-get-killed type. He is more related to a Monk when he's in battle, and even some appearences resemble that of a servant of the gods. Well that's just an opinion. Point is, I'm very excited! :D

Is it true that Sins and Rits wont get any participation in Nightfall?

By this I mean additional skills etc etc.

On Guru and unnofficial gw site, there is some mention there of this.

It seems that only core proffessions will be getting these.

If this is confirmed, I will be deleting my Rit.

Here is what I can do to help. As I posted in another thread my kids no longer play and I have aquired their accounts. If anyone needs a place to try out the new characters you can contact me in game and I will loan you an account to try it with, please keep in mind that these accounts were my kids so not much unlocked on them. Just in case the characters are not premade.
