www.newegg.com

I built my last computer for about 1900 dollars. One from dell with similar stats was about 3650 so I think I got a nice bang for my buck

Same here I can build my own at a fraction of the cost of an prebuilt. If you shop wisely you can get twice the computer for the same price, or the same computer for about half the price.

It would depend on the situation, I don't suggest that anyone just say one day that they are going to build their own computer as there are so many different things that can go wrong. However, if you have a decent knowledge of computers and know someone that can help if you can't figure it out then go for it.

I go to price watch for my general pricing of parts and I like Tom's Harware guide to check the reviews for the parts.

The drives that you have in your old computer can be switched over to the new one for a nice saving also, as well as some internals if they are compatable and you are not looking to upgrade them.

lol. what do ya think. buy a mother board and a pross ya think they would work together. ? ? but----OHHHH, the prosesser is to new, you need ned new bios. Darn, ya cant update your bios with the core 2 dur pross. it don't see it. Daaaa. What do I do. Intel says the only way to correct is to insall a older pross, then flash the bios and all ok. what a pile of crap. I have to buy a new p4 prosser to flash my bios. Can't talk too much right now but I'M peeved.

I would be peeved too Ernie! Intel STILL does not have their act together, neither does Microsoft for that matter! Sucks...maybe a good local repair shop could help you out - in that they have the parts and pieces to do this for you for a fee vs buy and DIY.

lol, had to buy a 2 core p4, install and update the bios, then reinstall the core 2 duo. its running great now. flys in wow at max settings and refresh rate. makes my old 2400, 2g seem like a modle t. I hate to take my stuff to a repair shop, so easy for them to take advantage of people, being in electronics since the navy in 1962 i feel as well qualified as most anyway. at least i dont fool myself, usualy. :-)

Congrats Earnie I am glad you got it up and running. Sorry you had to go through the expense of a new processor to fix it though.

That's good.

Tiger Direct is a great company in my book. Back in the day when our company held lan tournaments they were one of our sponcers. They always sent us tons of stuff to give away as door prizes and such.
