Hey everyone,
I submitted a suggestion to the GW team via the ticket system on the site about being able to hide the guild cape. Their response was to direct me to fansite forums, and so here i am :).
I think it would be nice to able to hide the guild cape, purely for cosmetics. It doesn't always match armor, you don't always agree with your guild leader's (or whoever in your guild designed your cape) taste, and sometimes it's just nice to just change up the appearance of your character a bit without spending any money. A command or button of some kind that hides the guild cape would be a nice touch, in my opinion.
I would like to thank the GW team and any fellow players in advance for any comments posted on this subject, i hope to hear some replies about this :)
I like the idea of being able to toggle your Guild cape On and Off while in towns, outposts, and missions, but it should always be On during PvP.

Does the Knights Templars cape look sweet?
Our's is one of the best capes in the game, tho I may be slightly biased! Check out this pic from the KT Guild of the Week (http://www.guildwars.com/gameinfo/guilds/07-knights-templar.html) interview: 8)

How'd you guys manage to do that? And it does look pretty cool. Sometimes I'd rather not have a cape, so that would be a nice addition.

I think it should not only be turned on and off, but how about go a bit further, with guild members being able to request cape changes, if there willing to front the money. Some times my members say my cape sucks, but they never offer anything better. Maybe if they were able to sugest what they thought looked good, and lets face it, we don't all know our guild members in person.
Also I think turn the cape off should also be advanced, eg. the rangers long cloaks look pretty dumb with a cape as well, so why dont arena try to incorperate having the cape logo and look on the rangers cloak?
I also think that perhaps the guild leader should be able to "offer" the cloak not give it. In other words I'd like to invite people into my guild and after they prove themselves capable then allow them to use the guild cape, or even if a member does something that the guild dissaproves of eg. swearing in game then perhape as the leader I could take the guildcape back until they better learn to behave themselves.
Creating visual enhancements to the game can sometimes be used to create useful changes to the structure of the game.

I really like that idea! :P

the best ideas are always the ones you steal from your friends :D
i like the idea too. allow players to join under recruit status and only allow them to wear cape when promoted to member.

WOW! 8) Took my idea to a whole new level man!! Awesome idea, why should a recruit automatically get a cape that shows they belong to the guild...it would also show other players not in your particular guild that you joined a guild and worked to earn your cape.... sort of a sign of a more serious and skilled player (if the guild leader uses the cape as a sign of certain rank). Same with the ranger long cloak thing, very cool. I have a ranger and an elementalist, elementalist armor tends to look kind of funny with the cape too, unless the colors match. i sometimes find the way the long-cloak armor and the cape match looks distracting, the cape moves around a lot but the armor stands perfectly still, or something like that o.O i'm not quite certain why but it looks distracting sometimes.
Thanks for that contribution griddark, i really hope the devs add this in sometime soon.

Maybe not get a cape when they are just recruited, but given some kinda symbol like by their name or something. That would show hey he's in a guild but not completely a member.

Other thoughts on capes:
Perhaps a different cape for guild officers/leaders
Perhaps the option of buying one of those plain brown fur capes some characters have(When you're not in a guild, mostly.)
Possibly a "probationary" level of guild member that does not allow you access to anything but the guild channel and member list(No cape on this level.) - [I see Guardian of KT already beat me to this one]
Maybe a choice to not make the emblem in the middle of the cape reflective when making capes

Under recruit status, maybe a slight indication on the Guild cape...means they are not full Guild members yet, but are being considered for the Guild. That way the whole Guild knows and so do others who see the recruit about GW.

How about maybe a customizable cape? Just add little things but keep the synbol that was orignally just add colors you like. That would be nice.

I think I'd rather have my Clan Emblem tattooed on my face ( was going to say my butt , but there isn't much difference heh heh  )
Crimson Ilia

That would actually be an interesting idea. Guild tattoos. Of course the difficult part would be finding a place where any member of the guild would have free skin for it.
Perhaps real, body-cover tabards? Sashes, too, might look pretty decent.

So everyone in the guild would have to be bald? I think that'd lose you a lot of members on purely aesthetic grounds, frankly.

Well seems like someone already took my idea (different method of cape) I was thinking the archer would find a cape annoying so why not an arm ribbon or cloth, didn't put much thought into it, but why not have in pve guild capes more of a class thing rather then uniform.
PVE is about being cool, having different looks and showing off. I realise that PVP is about equal footing and being recognized and I think in the PVP realm this should be kept the same as I think everyone who plays guildwars thinks that it's the best PVP style ever.
I'm sure that everyone of us also understand the difficulty of changing the game to suit new ideas, esp ones that need to be built on a already set style.
What I would most like to see is ARENA.net set someone up to reply to these posts. Maybe an already existing player, that can tell us if these ideas are alreayd being looked into, or even appreciated. To give us "users" a sence of being listened 2, give a friendly face to our community from the world of the DEV's.
THX :D

uhm... maybe the guild's abbriviation name.. (e.g. [BZS]) written on the cape but not the symbol

I have beaten the game and I'm working with my other characters and still havent joined a guild. I have always found the capes unappealing but now I am hungry for PVP (HOH was halarious with henches).
I like the idea of recruits not wearing the cape, but not for the same reasons. I would like to check out the guild before I commited.
In truth, I have started looking for a group that plays together regularly without the cape. That is how much i dislike the cape.
Thank you for this thread btw.
