There were alpha testers, who played for 7 months straight, and they cannot wait for release.

It's hard to say, thats going to vary between each person. Hell, there are still people playing Starcraft daily and that game is how old?

More often than not if you have good friends in a game it greatly prolongs the longevity of the fun factor even when the game might be feeling dated.

With all the unique things GW has to offer, I know I won't be looking for something new for quite some time.

I have played GW for well over a year! I will play as long as I can forsee. This is an incredible game. The community is fantastic too. The interaction during PvE missions and PvP battles with game players is unsurpassed!

I will be at GW for a long time!

I think the gw community will stay alive for a long time.... sure there isn't too much replayability in the pve after u've farmed all ur items and got the skills u need, but the pvp is wats going to hold this game up. GVG, glads, and tombs are all loads of fun, over and over and over again... each new guild u fight u must implement a new style of play which is wat makes gw so interesting... and because all of the classes are so well balanced there are hundreds of different class combinations to experiment with... and then every 6-9 months we get another expansion... and when u think about it that aint too long, if anything i think that guild wars will continue to grow because of this instead of dying down like many other games... just to give an example i got bored of WOW pretty quickly because i found it too repetative, the servers are down wenever u want to play, the pvp sucks (pfft battlegrounds?? knowing blizzard it'll be another 2 years before they're out [and working :P ]), and its unbalanced, but no blizzard games are balanced... except starcraft, which took bilzzard a good 5 years of patches to finally balance...

guild wars has a lot going for it and u cant be sure, but i think gw may end up near the popularity that WoW is at now... but i could be wrong about all of this

Nah, Matt I think your 100% on the mark. Guild Wars is very competitive, any game with some number chart saying how many times you kicked other peoples ass is appealing. Look at any successful strategy game, they have a frequent tourney, GW has that feature implemented already. While you still have fed ex questing its far from as bad as WoW, and some are actually <gasp> fun! I'm sick of needing to farm certain gear for my characters in other games to compete or perform well. How many "big bad orc guys" can you slaughter in a row for that must have item and say your still having fun?

Once GW gets out there more and makes itself more known you are going to see many CASUAL gamers come back into this style of game. I've met so many people who've stopped playing MMO's because they can't compete due to real life time restraints. It is not much of an issue here, not even close to that of anything else available now. If Arenanet stays true to its word on adding content and policing the server for hackers and exploiters we are going to have a very mature (majority) community and one helluva game.

Edit: Forgot to mention that if Anet keeps up with its superb player correspondence its going to be another turn from the norm. Go to any WoW class forum and count the number of maturely addressed threads and see if their Devs or Moderators ever respond to them with anything other than a vague one-liner. To keep players happy you need to address issues in a timely manner and at the very least let people know whats going on. Few games can ever claim they do this, many just ride that wave of success until the players start acting with that wallet and hit cancel. Look at whats happened to DAoC, its a sinking ship and a large part of that is because they ignored feedback.

On the WoW topic, How many WoW'ers have converted to GW?
I went to hastings today, and saw a whole shelf reserved for GW.
Thats about 700 games there, which I expect all to be sold.

if actually not sure many of them have. basically most people who wanted to pay for the monthly fees will stick to the game (excluded the few hardcore gamers). i dont the the numbers for a fact at all, but i think the majority including myself came from diablo2 as i see a lot of guilds that used to play diablo2 transfered over... i mean a LOT

there's a lot of people that i know that are going from WoW to GW as soon as their next fee or card runs out for WoW... my guess is there will be even more after others begin to go to gw

also forgot to mention 2 things: like u said Kaede Anet cares about their fans, unlike blizzard who dont listen to anything the community has to say, and also i think another thing that will draw more players (especially ones who cant get on as often) is that even if u play half as much as another player it doesn't mean that player is better... its not about the amount u play... there are no "uber" items that overpower all the others, its all focused on tactics and teamwork, and if u can nail those down and are cabable of perceive ur enemy's strategy and counter it you will have sucess... no collecting items for 100+ hrs, ur equiptment isn't doing the fighting for u, and thats wat i like most about guiild wars..... mind u ill be playing a lot anyway, but i like the whole sense of strategy better than, my sword is better than yours, therefore i win

I have got the feeling that given the past ad-hoc events by the dev's, that we may seen many spontaneous events or many type occur on a rather frequent basis. True the expansions / add-ons will generate the revenue we need to help Arena earn (to keep this game and staff at it) to enjoy the ever evolving universe of Guild Wars!
