I was looking through the strategy guide and kinda pick and chose some skills and thought they might go well together, what you think?

1. Barrage (Elite) - All Preparations are removed. Shoot arrows at up to 5 foes near your target. These arrows strike for +1-16 dmg if they hit.

2. Hunters Shot - If Hunters Shot hits, you strike for +3-18 dmg. If this attack hits a foe that is knocked down or moving, that foe begins bleeding for 3-25 seconds.

3. Pin Down - If Pin down hits, your target is crippled for 3-15 seconds.

4. Epidemic - All Negative conditions target foe suffers are spread to nearby foes.

5. Cry of Frustration - If target foe is using a skill, that foe and all nearby foes are interrupted and suffer 10-44 dmg.

6. Backfire - For 10 seconds, when target foe casts a spell that foe takes 35-140 dmg.

7. Shatter Hex - Remove a hex from target ally, all foes near that ally take 22-140 dmg.

8. Savage Shot - If Savage Shot hits, your targets action is interrupted. If that action was a spell, you strike for 13-28 dmg.

Attribute Points would be Distributed between Marksmanship, Expertise and Domination, but not sure how many in each.

I figured that using this build you could take out small groups of enemies. By First using hunters shot while a mob was running at you to cause bleeding, then use pin down for crippling. Follow that up with Epidemic to give bleeding and crippling to all foes. Then use Barrage to hit all and if the warrior gets a hex, Shatter Hex is there to do dmg to the group of enemies. Cry of Frustration will also dmg the group if used on a mob using a skill. Then Backfire and Savage Shot could be used on those blasted healers that try and hide and keep the group healed.

Not sure if this would work the way i envisioned it so any criticism would be greatly appriciated.

i think that build is excellent but i think that pin down should be replaced with something else because you already have a skill that counters movement or vice versa

that sounds good for pve. for pvp you will prolly have to switch out somethings. i find that in pvp group attacks arnt as effective. but thats just me. i liked hunters shot for pve just to use as a regular shot in battle, even if the moster isnt moving. it still gives + damage even if they arnt moving. there are 2 other skills that are +dmg shots that do more than hunters, but they cost 10 energy and hunters only costs 5

Feel free to try this out but Cry is 15 Energy, Shatter 15 and Backfire 15 I see some 0-5 energy available alot.

In PvE (3) Penetrating shots will do similar damage to Backfire and Shatter and with good Expertise it will only cost around 3-4 energy/shot IIRC. Shatter Hex is great fun in PvE though as there are always hexes to shatter and always a group to take damage from it.

One skill that is very nice in PvE is Poison and Poison Arrow IMO for PvE beats Barrage. Altough Barrage is AOE and nice damage with some TAB key use you can turn Poison Arrow into AoE.

Distracting even though it doesnt have the damage bonuse is a far better skill than Savage as it is almost instant where Savage has a casting time and can miss.

Not sure Pin is of great use in PvE.

Traps are awefull fun and extremely effective in PvE as well as PvP. A skill like Whirling Defense can allow you to be offensive wiht traps also. A good dust trap/Barbed can make any foes easy to avoid and blind for a bit.

This looks like more of a PvP build than PvE but in both situations you are going to have energy issues. This might be fixed with changing one skill to steal a little energy also.

Whatever you choose do not take my word as gospel and go out there and play this combo and see for yourself. Although I am positive on my feelings it is best that you try this so you see its strenghts and weaknesses and can make good solid adjustments from that.

NEVER follow what others give you and get stuck in that rut.........try stuff.......fail.......adjust.....retry.......fail.......learn. You are better off with failure for 2 weeks tryin a bunch of stuff than someone give you a build that works "adequately" and you always use it and never try anything else.

I agree with Tim there... play it and see.

We can tell you you'll have energy problems like you'd never believe. But that's not the same as you experiencing the pain and feelings of helplessness/uselessness.

If you're just starting a ranger/me for the first time. I'd go with pretty much pure ranger to start. Experiment with inspiration as you go on, try out illusion and domination after you're comfortable with working with non expertise cost reduced skills. (with 3 pips regen and 32 reserve... you have a hard time comparing to a caster primary with 4 pips regen and 50 reserves after equipment).

I also disagree with Tim... Barrage is a great skill. It almost ALWAYS works in PvE (a lot of critters are immune to poison bleed in PvE). It's got a nice +dam marksmanship attack in it's own right. It's big downside is it prevents you from using any preperation while doing so. (which may or may not be a problem... say if your only prep is choking gas... which is only usable 35% of the time, leaving you free to barrage the other 65% with gusto). In PvP less so, but conditions have a whole set of other complications which go with them in a PvP build.
