What has been added to bow (string and/or grip) ?

Is there any way to tell what enhancements have been make to bows or other weapons without salvaging them?.

ie, does this bow have an added bowstring or grip.. I would like to use string on something else but not lose the bow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You can tell by the name of the item...for instance...

A fiery bow of fortitude will have a fire damage string and a health gaining grip. I may be wrong, but I believe the first part of the description refers to strings, the second to the grip.

Unfortunately that's impossible. When you use an Expert Kit to salvage the bow string, it detroys the bow.

As Andromeda stated, you can tell what kind of string and/or grip is on a bow by looking at the name. The prefix is the bow string and the suffix is the bow grip.

Is there a faq on this someplace? I had a purple bow with a lightning bowstring and I used the expert salvage kit and it just disappeared. Is that what happens when it fails? At least a "sorry charlie" message would be helpful--gimme some feedback.

If I had succeeded in getting the pieces off the bow what can they be added to? I.e. if I have another purple bow that I want to put the string on can that be done? (the bow doesn't have an elemental string). Thanks for helping the Newb.

When you expert salvage a weapon, you are risking the chance to get the "upgrade" or plain "craft materials" back. When it succeeds you get the upgrade, when it fails you get craft materials.

It does tell you in green bolded letters what you've gotten back when you expert salvage an item in the chat channel. Be it craft materials or an upgrade.

Upgrades can only be added to the kind of weapon it is made for. Bow strings/grips are only useful to bows, Sword hilt/pommels are only useful to swords and so forth.
