Typing out messages to teammates during a GvG battle is difficult, can get you stuck in "enter-dum" and is hard to get the point across to people who don't know where they're going. I am looking for advice and/or suggestions on methods of communicating during a Guild Wars game (or any game really). I have heard of using headsets with spearkers and microphones to communicate via the internet during play, but I don't have any specifics. Has anyone tried these services? Do you like them? How much per month? Do they work with dial-up (I've DSL but others have dial-up).

Thanks,
finebone.

you can get a headset with a mic pretty cheap from any electronics store. i recommed a head set over a mic that sits on your desk, or attaches to your monitor. you get less background noise. you can get a ventrillo or teamspeak server to host your communication. both services work very well. i like team speak more but both are pretty similar. not sure how much running a voice server would affect game play on a 56k. i know they do take up some bandwidth. maybe a suggestion to arena net is to include some more automatic commands you can map to specific keys. like map your number pad with things like "follow me","go right/left" etc. or be able to bind keys to your own message, although that might cause a problem with spamming.

From what i've heard.. TS is better.. But if you want to host your own server, you have to pay, if you dont want to, you can always use the public server.

Ventrillo's free.. And you get your own private server.

You don't have to pay for TS if you run it from your home computer, I run my own ts server and I don't pay a cent

So last night I bought a headset and I downloaded the Teamspeak client. I installed it and clicked on one of the public servers. I was able to hear the computer playing wave sounds that people had entered the room, but I was not able to hear anyone. Apparently that is a semi-common problem with teamspeak according to their boards. Their few suggestions on fixing it involve installing the latest version and making sure everyone's on the same version. Does anyone have any tips?

I started to look at ventrilo as well, but it was 1am and I was disappointed by teamspeak and I couldn't find an easy and free way to start up ventrilo. (apparently I needed to already know where I was connecting too but I had no idea). Maybe I was just tired. ;)

You can run your own TeamSpeak Servers from home and hosted on the net. KT has there own servers so we host our web stuff on our boxes, including a couple of TeamSpeak Servers. We use to run PUBLIC open servers, but now we just invite others to the servers as we got hacked and had to enforce more controlls to prevent injury. TeamSpeak SEEMS to be the widest spread, but Ventrillo is used too a lot.

I recommend the LogiTech USB headset that runs about $30 bucks US. It has volume and mute controls on the cord. Optionally BLUE TOOTH wireless head phones and mike setups are great fo rthe freedom, but pricey at about $100.00.

I recommend both clients be installed on your computer, Ventriillo and TeamSpeak. That way IF you join PvP matches with others, it does not matter which VOIP they have, you can join either.
