there are no races in GW.
fighting is real time.
it's a RPG game, but varies from the regular infinite MMORPGs. it has a strict story line that you follow, with a number of missions attached. once you'd done those, you're technically through the game. you can still play of course, but you're not required to, if what you're aiming for is completing the game. There are some areas that are designed to be used after you complete the game.
Gender is not bound to any classes. you can be any primary class, any secondary class and any gender, in any combination you like. your primary class determines how you'll look in terms of armor though.
Hope that answered your questions satisfactorily :)

well, that's a pretty hard question to answer, since that boils down to taste :P
However, if you come from a MMORPG, and expect to be surrounded by tons of people, you'll get surprised.
Everything is instanced (like WoW dungeons) and the towns are basically just a place you go to pick up supplies, sell stuff, get quests, and get group members. it's not like a MMORPG, where you'll fight side by side with other groups. It does make the game alot less alive, but it also makes your play time entirely your own - you don't have to put up with people stealing kills, stealing quest mobs etc.
it's good and bad, imo, but it's certainly different from most other things (although, i suppose you could compare it to diablo 2 on battle.net, where you would load the game as an instance-y thing, and be in the chat room to pick up people)

if you die you are rezed close to the town with death penalty to your health and energy. that goes away when you go back to a town. i love how they handle dieing. I think GW solves a lot of the problems of MMOG, or at least things that are problems IMO. yeah as mentioned above, the instanced feels a little lonely at times. but i think its a small sacrifice for all the other great stuff about the game

I rather it be this way because it does solve many of the MMORPG problems, Like stealing kills is pointless, because you share your exp with people in your group.. which are the only people there. Also, when an item drops its not a free for all like in D2, it randomises who gets it, and only that person can pick it up.

most MMORPGs handle loot dropped inside the group as well, even if not in an instance though. but yeah, instances obviously fixes alot of issues, but all things come with a price tag :) I like this change of pace myself, as i've been through 5 years of MMORPG'ing with all it's "blessings" :p

GW's overall game engine should be a guide line for future MMORPG, in GW there is no think that i can really hate.
