There really should be some system where players that quit during quests/missions loose ranking for themselves and their guild if they have one and are marked in some type of way

But what about quitting for legitimate reason? People lag out some times. If I am in a mission with people who are jerks, or wont cooperate I leave. I also have quit a few times becuase my girl friend...persuaded me.

Your girlfriend isn't a legitimate reason and neither is "my mom says my tea is ready!" I should think the system would be able to tell if it was a quitter or was dropped due to lag, quitting a team because they won't do what you tell them to do isn't a legit reason either[/b]

I have to agree, that being in the middle of a mission and someone just pops out leaving you shorthanded, especially in the 4 man teams makes for a grumpy player, but i do see the point of legit reasons for popping out. Maybe if it was done where you get 2 legit hop outs prior to having a penalty or something like that.

i do agree it gets frustrating. and i know i try to make sure i have time to commit to a mission before i start it. i think quitting a team that doesnt cooperate is a legit reason. if your trying to get a mission done and they just do stupid things and get themselves killed, why stay in that group if you know you will fail? what about if you are in a mission and over half your team leaves? you have no choice but to leave yourself.

A player cant be held responsible when life interferes... Get used to it.

It's annoying when people leave, but like others said, sometimes you get disconnected, get error seven, or your power goes out, computer crashes and sometimes life just interferes as well

Sorry, but this sounds like someone who has not yet had a serious relationship.
One day, you'll understand why a girlfriend is a legitimate reason. It only get's worse when the girlfriend becomes fiance, and once she's a full fledged wife, it's not longer "persuaded". In fact, they won't even say a word. They will give you a look, and you will know... time to logoff. No time for questions, just... time to go...

haha, that's good  I do agree with the fact that a system should be putted in place so that it says "so and so has left the game", if they leave, or "so and so has timed out" if they get disconnected due to an error, lag timeout and stuff like that. That's one thing that they have in Doom 3 and I like it because then you know that the person ou're playing isn't just leaving because they're losing and it makes them look bad. This would actually work better in a game like Guild Wars because, let's face it, a lot of people do flip out and get pissed when someone "leaves the game," but you shouldn't just jump to conclusions. So what do you guys think about this dropping message system?

Life gets in the way, its annoying yes, but it can't be helped.. Like take yesterday for instance.. I was at the very end of a mission that i was helping a fellow forum member, and my dad needed the comp to look up some directions for a someone.. I couldnt say no, since it was a long distance call... So i got off... It pissed me off, cuz its not something i normally do.. But it happens...

and it could either be a good look or a bad look :D

there's no such thing. there's just... the look
mortals cower in fear, men soil themselves, when faced with the look
spot it, and you kow your time has come

Actually.... there IS a system for penalizing such players ........... and you're on it.
Word of Mouth about bad players and poor sports does more to hurt these ppl than anything Anet could do.
By simply noting the names and warning others about these punters, on forums or in-game, you'll reach a much larger number of ppl, and IMHO, these idiots would probably rather deal with Anet than be labled a pariah by other players with more Honor and Integrity.
Then there is the ignore function, with which you can keep track of name changes and new chracter names, should you feel that obsessive about it.
But, as was also noted before, there have been times where ppl were just forced offline (either by connection failure or parental interuption, MOM IS PISSED!!!!!) so be a little circumspect about who you rake over the coals... their leaving might simply not have been by choice.
And to be fair, I've left parties myself, but I only did so because I was fed up with the fighting, insults and general childish behavior (something I'm sure we've all run into) and for me, that kind of crap detracts from my enjoyment of the game.
Btw.... if you should need help or just someone to go questing with, feel free to PM me ...... either as Krit ShadowGryphon lvl 20 W/E or Saiar (pronounced Sigh Are) ShadowGryphon lvl 16 N/Mo. I will stick with you as long as you want me to and I never complain or talk continuously.[/u]

I know from experience that getting disconnected normally turns that group against you for a good while (normally until they forget your name).
However to at least stay of friendly terms i take note of a team member, who i can whisper once i do get booted and request they pass on the message, or tell them all before we start that I may get booted at any given time.

:D Choose wisely my friends, my wife and I play the game together so I don't get the "look."
I do think you could do some kind of rating statistic that shows the times you complete missions, leave missions,and/or get disconnected. That way others could identify frequent quitters and have an idea how much risk certain players will be. In something like this players would understand that everyone has to leave sometimes but you could see those abusers.

eminds me of the time my team of 8 it wus reduced to 4 it wus the 1 where u had to destroy shiros sprirt world we were able to beat it and my char faction guy was an assain but i made it through

i very rarely leave missions/quests
i do have a girlfriend and sometimes i get the look but i will argue i am in a co op mission and cant leave just yet this normaly works but 10-15 min later i am getting the look 'and' the sigh and i am forced to type while i am getting the toe tapping sorry gtg
normally though my girlfriend is cool with it
i have had it where my team of 8 goes down to 4 during mission i normally joke about nooby attitudes (if they had one b4 they left) but i carry on even in difficult missions (mainly for the drops  )
although with some leavers its a good thing they leave coz it allows the rest of us to do the mission fairly easily rather than worrying what this noob or noobs are gonna do next
i do not aprove of leavers just because they died within the 1st 5 min or because of a nooby attitude
i have mixed feelings about leaving coz dinner is ready coz if that is the case y did u start the mission in the 1st place
but most other reasons are just life and even when it really annoys u, u have to grin and bear it because there is nothing u can do about it
as long as u dont leave for nooby reasons i'm cool with it
and if u want my help for a mission u can add me to ur friend list and pm me atm i mainly play as a lvl 20 N/R Aleggy K Hinds
if u have ever played with someone called Aleggy it was probably me

I think the solution is simple, players can make comments about other players, but only one comment per character, this will stop flamers from bad posts just because they have a conflict with someone. I think if you see post after post that somebody leaves after they have what they want or starts talking trash and is insulting to others that you can be fairly sure it's legitimate. The list should probably allow a hundred or two entries max and old entries should roll off, this prevents someone that has finally grown up from being penalized because they were a dork at nine but now at ten they have developed a little more respect for others. One good way to fix it is to allow the team leader to kick people that are not doing their jobs in the team after the mission has started, after joe dork head gets kicked out of his tenth mission maybe he'll realize he can't just stand by the gate and get credit and must pull his weight. Frustration can be a very useful thing, dork's getting their commupance is much more satisfying to me anyway.

It's not the first time a post like that pop up in the middle of the forum.
Someone left your party, you might have failed the mission (maybe 10 times) and are a bit pissed off. Understandable.
But as other peeps mentionned, this might be because the player sevened, or any other reason necessiting to send a bug report to ArenaNet... In this case, the rating system you are proposing is dooming the bugged player to have a bad rating until doomsday, which is not fair.
As for people leaving because "dinners ready", I would say it is a sign that these people can't plan ahead, because if I know I have dinner in 10 min, I don't indulge in GW knowing that each mission is at least 20 to 30 min long.
One last leaver I absolutely loathe it is the leaver who leave because "I-don't-wanna-die-because-I-am-after-the-survivor-title". Now, that's stupid. ArenaNet should get rid of the /death command, because some player turn it into an obsession.
As long as there is no way to discriminate a forceful eject from a tech problem, I am totally against any system that would let players unleash frustration and anger on the back of a player who might have left due to network hazard.
This has been discussed before, this has been settle the same way before too...
As long as you don't have a leaver each time you do a mission, I would put it under the "acceptable casualties" and get over it.
If you have one or more leaver in the party each time you play, I would say : "choose your party more wisely, or join a guild, get some friend to play with you. These won't let you down (unles crappy network)"

To be honest (being a girl myself), you seem to have very selfish girlfriends.
Both me and my boyfriend play guild wars together and I would never give him "the look", you have your own life and she should have hers, tell her to get lost and go get a hobby

I think in most cases "the look" is triggered more from how much the game is played, not by the simple fact its being played, and how much time it takes away from her.
Few females get into games like this and even fewer are hardcore.
If I got rid of every female that gave me "the look" over a hobby of mine I would of been one lonely SOB for a very long time by now.

Yeah, but why doesn't the girlfriend find something to do herself?
Maybe the girls you lot are with are just attention seekers, in which case you are better off without.
I'm sure if it was the other way around, you wouldnt mind at all if she was spending alot of time playing games.

The door swings both ways my friends. I play and my husband don't, and I sometimes get a look. Of course most of the time it is because he is trying to sleep, and I am still up playing the game.

I'm with STINGER on this one Pandora. My gf really doesn't care if I play games an hour or two a night, but if it's on the weekday and I try spending 3+ hours I start getting the look. If you really want to spend that much time, find a gf with similar tastes than you or go single. I really don't think most girls are like you, or I C U for that matter, it's really too bad.

I would have to agree that there isn't enough women gamers out there. Not sure why but online gaming hasn't found the correct hook and bait for the majority of todays women.
Now don't get me wrong my hubbie gets *the look*, especially if he is on the computer at my play time. I also get *the look* from him at around 3 am when he is trying to sleep and I am being overly talkative with the computer monitor.

KT has IIRC (3) Women and one Young Lady in it that are pretty active and I think a few others not so active. (2) of the more active GvGers are female and they all GvG some when there is a spot I beleive.
I have nver been around that many in a game at one time and I think its cool.......
