Hi all, some pre-noob questions

Hi Im new as you can see lol.
I have just this minute ordered a copy of guild wars from play.com so I will hopefuly recieve it in the next couple of days. This will be my first ever MPOG (is that right?) because Ive never seen the point in paying for a game repeatedly, when I can have plenty of fun with a multiplayer game that I only need to pay once for.
With that in mind, is there anything I should be aware of in my first forray into a persistant world? Im already pretty security concious so I wont be at risk of giving my password away at all, ever, so dont worry about that.
Also I was wondering what the best starting class is to chose? I dont want to be a stereotype starter (i.e the tank) and was thinking of a ranger, would this be suicidal, or a reasonable choice? failing that I was thinking of a Necromancer.
Next up was, how easy is it to get into a good guild, Im not worried about rank, but a fun, friendly enviroment, can you recomend any for a guy in his twenties (I dont mind younger players, just not fond of the whole I R L337 crowd)
And finaly (for now lol) is when I create my first mini-me should I use a realistic name (like john smith) or could I go with this forum name and still be taken seriously?

w/mo is the stereotype starter, but its still a good fun build. its the easiest to get to know the game world. but its just as easy to play any other class. since you play this game in parties every build is a good build. everything is very well balanced

Next up was, how easy is it to get into a good guild.
just gotta shop around to find one you like. there is no penalty for joining and leaving guilds.

you can go with anything. you see everything from Death Machine to Top Ramen Noodles. your name just has to be two words. if you want it to be one name try making it I Bob I and it looks like | Bob |

Thanks Mattinator, im still new to this sort of thing, even though Ive been gaming for about 18 years lol so I havent got all of the terms down 100% plus it explains why I never see anyone outside of town

It's nice in terms of not having to face the kill stealers and possible annoying asshats in a persistant world, but I've met some good friends through just randomly meeting in the wilderness in other games. So its got its ups and downs just like everything else. :wink:

Hey man I've got 3 characters, one assended and I still consider myself a noob. I feel this way when I'm hacking away at some guy for days on end, then some other guy walks up, sneezes, and then the whole group falls.

Be aware of scammers. Runners are for the most part are legit, but never ever agree to pay up front (I run people to Temple of Ages regularly). If you need to get somewhere or want some help once you get into post-seering let me know I have lower level characters that I'm interested in getting better.

If your trading with someone and you don't know what the item is or does it's better to say no thanks and ask on here if you don't know.

Kiss your social life good-bye cause you're gonna love this game.
